US Senator: Iran war was built on lies, and Trump didn't provide a single reason for it

Senator Elizabeth Warren, after emerging from a classified briefing with President Donald Trump's advisors on the war with Iran, said the war was built on lies, emphasizing that the US administration has no plan for Iran.

The Democratic senator added on Wednesday, in a video posted on the X platform, "It's worse than you thought, and you're right to be concerned. The Trump administration has no plan for Iran."

Warren described the war, which began last Saturday, as "illegal and based on lies," adding that it was "launched without any imminent threat to our country."

She stressed that the US president, during the briefing attended by her Senate colleagues, "has not yet provided a single clear reason for this war," and continued, "He doesn't seem to have any plan for how to end it either."

The Democratic congresswoman concluded her assessment of the briefing by saying, "Like many of you, I am very angry. I am angry at what Trump is doing, and I am saddened by those who have been killed so far in this unnecessary conflict," pledging to continue working to end the war.

“An endless war”

President Trump’s top national security advisers spent much of Tuesday presenting their case to Congress for a potential U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, describing the operation as rapidly evolving and leaving open the possibility of deploying U.S. troops, according to Reuters.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hagseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Keane gave classified briefings first to the Senate and then to the full House of Representatives.

Democrats said administration officials had not outlined a strategy for ending the war and accused Trump of starting another “endless war” like the protracted conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan that began under Republican President George W. Bush.

The Senate is scheduled to vote today, Wednesday, and the House of Representatives tomorrow, Thursday, on resolutions concerning war powers, seeking to prevent Trump from continuing to attack Iran without congressional authorization.

US and Israel launched a large-scale joint attack on Iran on Saturday morning, resulting in the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and dozens of Iranian military commanders, in addition to targeting air defenses and missile launch sites.

Tehran responded with a barrage of missiles targeting various areas in Israel, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure. It also launched attacks on Gulf Arab states.
