Amazon Sets the Record Straight: Walk Out Technology Operated by AI, Not Human Watchers
In response to previous reports, Amazon
confirmed that it employs over 1,000 individuals in India to monitor customer
behavior and analyze transactions within stores using its "Just Walk
Out" technology. While the company acknowledged the role of humans in this
process, it vehemently denied the scale of human involvement, as rumored.
In an exclusive statement to AWS Applications, Dilip Kumar,
Vice President of AWS Applications at Amazon,
clarified that employees' roles are limited to annotating marketing data and
improving system accuracy, noting that this practice is common in the
artificial intelligence industry.
Amidst the rumors, Amazon
appears to be indicating a greater focus on its "Dash Cart" smart
shopping technology, especially in larger stores. According to the analysis,
shoppers prefer using the smart shopping cart, prompting the company to expand
its usage and implementation in more locations.
However, Amazon
emphasizes its continued application of its "Just Walk Out"
technology in select and smaller-sized stores, with plans to open more stores
of this nature during the current year. The company is also working on
developing new algorithms and advanced sensors to increase accuracy and speed
in the system.
